Forward Together Grant: Building a Safer, Stronger Jacobsville
The work funded by the Forward Together Go Grant is an exciting step toward creating a safer, healthier, and more socially connected Jacobsville. We believe that when residents have the resources they need, they can truly flourish and invest more in their community, cultivating a vibrant neighborhood for everyone.
Enhancing Safety on Our Streets
One of our primary focus areas is safety. To address this issue, we collaborated with the Jacobsville Neighborhood Improvement Association (JNIA). Some members of JNIA raised concerns over children playing in busy streets. As a result of this concern, we created a plan to create and implement clear signage throughout the neighborhood that alerts drivers to drive cautiously, particularly in areas where children play and walk. By increasing awareness and promoting responsible driving, we aim to ensure that our streets remain secure for residents—especially our youngest ones.
Coming Together for Love Your Neighbor Days
In addition to our safety initiatives, we host biannual “Love Your Neighbor Days.” These events are designed to foster community spirit and encourage collaboration among Jacobsville residents, local volunteers, neighborhood leaders, and various community organizations.
During Love Your Neighbor Days, participants work side by side to transform the neighborhood, taking on a variety of projects that benefit everyone. Some of the exciting projects we have participated in in the past and will continue to carry on:
- Flower Power: An effort initiated by a Jacobsville resident whereby every household in Jacobsville receives a plantable flower, promoting beautification and encouraging residents to engage with nature in their own yards.
- Landscaping Projects: Enhancing public spaces and creating green areas that residents can enjoy and take pride in.
- Street and Park Cleanups: Organizing community clean-up efforts to keep our neighborhood clean and inviting for all.
- Resident-Specific Projects: We aim to address the unique needs of our community members through tailored projects that residents themselves are passionate about.
By bringing together diverse voices and talents, Love Your Neighbor Days reminds us of what we can achieve when we come together as a neighborhood.
